Drifting Away From SEO Rules

Why SEO Rules?

Before we start talking about why and when to drift away from some SEO rules, it’s important to know what exactly SEO rules are and why we need them for online marketing. SEO stands for Search Engine Optimisation and refers to the process of improving a website so that it ranks higher in search engine results.  SEO rules refer to the set of best practices which when followed deliver the most optimum results. SEO rules are needed to ensure that your website ranks higher in search engine results.

Advantages of Following Rules

It’s not that SEO rules provide the only way of doing things, but more often than not, they provide us with the best alternative of doing things. SEO rules and best practices also setup a benchmark of techniques which when used can provide the most optimum results. Once sure about a particular technique, you can use them as a benchmark to for further work. Moreover, best practices help us evolve and improve. Best practices themselves get better with time.

Why Wouldn’t You Follow Them?

A well-known proverb, “change is the only constant”, applies even to SEO rules and best practices. Best practices change with time and so it’more profitable to not follow them strictly For example, the best practices today, might not have been the best ones a few years back, and might not remain the best, few years down the line. So the general notion that SEO rules and best practices should always be followed is not always true. You need to choose your own set of rules, depending on your own needs and requirements.

When Not To Follow Them

The answer to this question lies in the age old proverb “necessity is the mother of all inventions”. You need to deviate from SEO rules and best practices as and when the necessity arisesFor example, when you feel that by adhering to the golden rules of best practices you are going to lose out on future profits, and by deviating from those prescribed set of rules you can capitalise on those profits, you know that you have to drift away from those rules and best practices.

So at the end of it all, the lesson is that SEO rules and best practices only provide you with guidelines, following which you can get the best results. But this does not mean that they are to be followed every time. You can drift away from them when you feel the need for it.
